About Jesus

Are you just a mere mortal?  We don’t think so.

Eternity awaits us all but where will we spend it?  The key to that answer is your status with Jesus Christ.  He offers you His free gift of salvation, but salvation is both easy and difficult.  In no way do we earn our salvation.  It is a gift. The people of the Old Testament offered sacrifices to atone for their sin but that system of sacrifice pointed out the fact that they were never going to be good enough for God due to their sin and guess what, we’re still not good enough, but for Jesus’ gift, His ultimate sacrifice.

Because salvation is a free gift there is also nothing that we can do to repay Jesus for that gift. Once we are saved, we do not act good because of a duty to be good.  Instead we bear fruit for God because our lives have been changed and we don’t want anything to interfere with our new relationship with Jesus.

Even though salvation is a free gift, we must be careful not to boil it down to just a onetime thing. There is power in praying (which simply means talking with God) for salvation but this is the start of a journey with the Lord, not something that can be done and forgotten about.

At the moment of our salvation we are heaven bound.  When we place our trust in Jesus and He forgives our sins, there are no more requirements to being a Christian.  But God wants us to grow closer to Him and that is a lifelong journey.  Obedience is required after salvation in order to have the best possible relationship with God. Just as sin separated us from God before salvation, our continued sin – even though it has been forgiven – affects our relationship with God.

A Christian’s life should also be an abundant life. Just as parents don’t come up with a bunch of rules to prevent us from having any fun, God’s rules are in our best interest as well. We seek to follow God because we love Him; we want the best possible relationship with Him; and, He wants the best life possible for us.

The moment of salvation, the time when our sins are forgiven through the blood of Jesus, is easy. Salvation and living the Christian life should be thought of as a lifetime journey. There will be bumps along the way but we don’t need to fear them because God is with us on the journey and He is more than enough when it comes to meeting all our needs.

So what now???

Accept that you are a sinner.  Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  To sin is to miss the mark.  God has set standards for us to live by and no matter how good we are at keeping them, we’re not going to be perfect.  Even the youngest of children know right from wrong and they know when they have done wrong.  We need to accept that we’ve done wrong things.

Believe that Jesus died for our sins and then rose from the dead.  Romans 5:8 tells us “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  If we only accept that we’re sinners, we’re in trouble because the first half of Romans 6:23 tells us that “the wages of sin is death.”  Sin means separation from God eternally which means we would suffer hell away from God in heaven.  Fortunately Romans 6:23 doesn’t end there but continues by telling us “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  We were dead in our sins but God did something about it by sending Jesus to die in our place.  We must believe that Jesus was able and willing to take away our sins by dying on the cross and rising from the dead.

Call upon Jesus to be saved.  Belief requires action to back it up.  Romans 10:9-10 says “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”  Continued belief calls for continued action.  We don’t have to keep getting saved but we do need to continue to put our faith into action by the way we live.  We should continue to confess that Jesus is Lord of our life.
